Excellent Show By Humpy - Wins The Women's Grand Prix!


Koneru Humpy of India perrformed well beyond one's expectations in the final round of the Qatar Women's Grand Prix, with black pieces, to score an emphatic win over Zhu Chen of Qatar to win the tournament in a nail-biting finish! After trailing
Armenian GM Elina Danielian, who had a dream of a tournament, for the entire tournament, Koneru Humpy scored 5.5 out of 6 after the break to win the 2011 Doha Grand Prix on tiebreaks!

Round eleven had all the thrills an action movie has!. After two peaceful draws between Nana Dzagnidze-Maia Chiburdanidze and Elina Danielian-Antoaneta Stefanova, all the attention turned to the games which would identify the winner of the Grand Prix in Qatar and also decide the other participant of the match with the reigning World Champion Yifan Hou of China.

A very important game that had a significant bearing on the final standings was played between Marie Sebag of France and Bathkhuyag Munguntuul of Mongolia. The French player also needed a win to share the first place. In that case, Nana Dzagnidze would get a ticket to the World Title Match with Yifan Hou as Koneru Humpy would not get enough points in overall series of Women Grand Prix. But, after almost 5 hours of fighting Marie Sebag was defeated by the Mongolian player and Koneru Humpy scored a crucial point, making her the Qatar Grad Prix winner on better tie-break & the player to fight for the World Crown against the Chinees prodigy & the reigning World Champion Yifan Hou!
